It’s no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs are the NHL’s best team, but that doesn’t mean they are the league’s most fun to watch.
That honor goes to the New Jersey Devils, and they will be looking to show off that fact at the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic in Buffalo, New York.
The Devils will be joined by the Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, and New York Rangers, along with the Toronto Marlies.
It will be the biggest game in NHL history, and it will be broadcast on NBCSN.
The game will be streamed online at NHL.com and via live streaming platforms like WatchESPN.com.
The Leafs, who won the Presidents’ Trophy in 2017-18, have already won the Stanley Cup twice in the past four seasons, and this is a chance to prove it, said head coach John Hynes.
The first meeting between the teams in 2019-20 will be in Buffalo.
Here’s what to watch for: The two teams will play the first two games of the tournament on Monday, March 11 against the Los Angeles Kings.
The last game of the season, a shootout against the Tampa Bay Lightning, will be on Sunday, March 17.
Game one, in Buffalo on Monday night, will have an average of 5,000 fans in attendance, while Game two, on Sunday night, could have as many as 10,000 people in attendance.
The winner will be crowned champion, and the second-place team will advance to the second round of the playoffs.
This will be Hynes’ first trip to the NHL Playoffs, and he’s not afraid to go against the best in the league.
“I’m not going to take anything for granted, and I’m going to work my hardest every single night,” Hynes said.
“The last time we played in New Jersey, we had a shootout in the first game.
This is not an easy road, but I’m confident that we can get it done.”
Hynes will also have to contend with the return of the Detroit Red Wings, who are coming off a playoff loss to the Maple Leafs in the 2017-2018 season.
The Wings are in their fourth season in the NHL and are currently the second seed in the Metropolitan Division.
The Sabres, who have won four straight games and are still in the hunt for the postseason, are looking to make history.
“We’ve got to do something special,” said Sabres forward Ryan O’Reilly.
“This is a very special moment, this is going to be a great occasion for us to play our best hockey and have a chance at winning a Stanley Cup.”
